"From our very first meeting right through to the end of the event, they were a great company to work with. Their enthusiasm, ideas, organisation and consideration of our culture and people was evident throughout. This was the first year we were organising a summer ball for 700 people and it needed to be a wow event – Millennia Events delivered in every aspect. Little touches such as the complimentary photographer and the cupcakes were a lovely surprise. Our event would not have been as successful as it was without the help and support of Kate and all the team. I would not hesitate in using them again. Thank you!"
Senior Manager
One of the world’s largest audit, taxation and risk consultants in the financial market comprised of tens of thousands of dedicated professionals. Regarded the world over for their research and award-winning services, the company is renowned for working hard and rewarding their staff with fantastic social events.
A brand new addition to the company social calendar, this was to be a summer party for over 700 people. Securing an impressive venue with easy access from the city and Home Counties was our biggest challenge. The party was to be an enchanting and summery theme, with fun entertainment throughout.
Adding a new event in the company social calendar meant this party had to have the wow-factor that would dazzle guests and leave a lasting impression. Taking inspiration from the trend for vintage style and the hotly anticipated new Alice in Wonderland 3D film, our theme designers created a ‘Beyond Wonderland’ theme which took the fantastical, whimsical charm of Alice’s world and recreated some iconic scenes from the book and film.
Guests arrived as the sun started to set and enjoyed a drinks reception on the Grandstand, commanding views across the bright white Pavilion and manicured lawns. A professional photographer roamed the reception, capturing guests arriving as well as natural reportage-style shots of the party beginning to take off.
The impatient yelps from the eye-catching costumed Red Queen and White Rabbit marked the call to dinner and guests were summoned to ascend the Pavilion staircase which was laden with foliage, flora and butterflies. Guests made their way past white picket fencing and trellis columns strewn with ivy to set the scene of the formal English garden where Alice’s story begins.
Guests were greeted by the Mad Hatter at the top of the stairs who invited guests into the event space with his trademark cup of tea and wild-eye looks. His charming ways and comedic performance brought guests into the weird and wonderful world of Beyond Wonderland.
The Pavilion itself was dressed in a striking red and white colour scheme with pops of black. Guests could take their seats at tables dressed with illuminated topiary ball table centres or finish their reception drinks in the bars where soft seating areas were created using benches covered in imitation topiary, with toadstool side tables and Astroturf flooring. The black and white polished chequerboard dance floor was positioned against the backdrop of a giant White Castle facade which was constructed to stand floor-to-ceiling in height. Atop the chequerboard dance floor hovered life-size inflatable flamingos whose long legs fluttered in the breeze as guests walked by. The flamingos were met with threats from the Red Queen to upend them and begin a croquet match – further adding to the amusing and interactive experience of Alice’s Wonderland.
Beautifully illustrated place cards offered guests information about the menu, bar tab procedure and details of transport departing the venue. These were branded with the company logo and crafted by our in-house design team.
Each table was provided with our signature Party Box – a kit containing all the novelties to really set the night off with a bang including glitter top hats, foil wigs, glow sticks and masks. As the first Party Box was curiously opened, the rest soon followed until the room exploded in shimmering colour and fun party novelties to help get everyone into the fun party mood.
As the dinner service concluded, the dance floor was commandeered by a troop of costumed playing cards – the Red Queen’s loyal guards. Performing a choreographed acrobatic routine, the playing cards were an eye-catching centrepiece to the evening entertainment.
The night drew on as guests joined the floating flamingos on the dance floor or retired to the bar areas where a multi-tiered cupcake stand filled with bitesize cakes invited guests to help themselves with “Eat Me” manila tags. Garden games including giant Jenga and chess were set up amidst the garden scenery and guests played with and against the costumed characters throughout the night.
The party was one of the most colourful and fun experiences we’ve ever produced for a large-scale event and the unusual layout of the Pavilion meant each area – be it dining, dancing or games – had its own intimate and intriguing atmosphere. The themed characters were a real hit and a fantastic time was had by all.
